Hi readers! This is a follow up to a previous post – How to Convert .studio or .studio3 to .svg from Silhouette Studio. After posting this posts, a Cutting for Business reader emailed me to let me know about a free, online service that converts .studio and .studio3 files to .svg files. This is important, because you can sell .svg files but cannot sell .studio or .studio3 files – learn more about that here.
The website that will allow you to convert .studio or .studio3 files to SVG is Ideas R Us. The process is easy and straightforward: 1) Upload your .studio or studio3 file, 2) Click the “Convert Studio to SVG” button, 3) Download the file that was created by right clicking on it and downloading it to your computer.
My results: I tried several files and had mixed results. On simple files (those with just text or simple line designs) the converter worked fast and great. For a few layered designs, they didn’t work as well. Ideas R Us does have a list of known issues available here.
My recommendations: For simple designs, try it out and see if it works for you. For multiple layer, shadowed, or other difficult files, use the method I offered in the original post. Let me know if you try it out and what results you get in the comments.

My question is this.
Is there a way to convert Corel Draw files to use on the Silhouette?
Thanks
Hi Joe! The easiest thing to do if you use Corel Draw is to purchase Silhouette Connect (Link: http://amzn.to/1YTCCkE) and cut directly from Corel. Hope that helps!
Used this website, converted the file to SVG and tried to upload to Facebook and it told me it was a Virus!
Hello! You did not get a virus from the site. You cannot upload SVG’s to Facebook anymore – the standard message you will receive is that it contains a virus. Thanks!
I’m so frustrated. I was using this converter and it was working well enough but something has changed and it is not working well for me at all. I used to use the method you described in your original post, but it was so inaccurate and a lot of work. I had to keep making my lines thicker and thicker to be seen so they could be traced and that greatly affected the detail of my designs. I’m back to the drawing board and feeling frustrated. I’ve tried drawing in other design software and really don’t like them. 2017 is not off to a great start at this point. I really wish Silhouette would just add it as a feature.
Email me the file that you are struggling with so I can take a look. 🙂
there are only a number of times you are allowed to use the conversion or is that per day?? TIA
It is per day.
Using the converter makes the file huge. I contacted Ideas R US and they said this is a flaw with Studio they do not intend to fix.
Only on patterned or very elaborate designs.
Hejsa
Jeg vil gerne bruge din konverter til mere end 10 filer – hvad skal jeg gøre ?
Hej! Jeg ejer ikke konverteren, jeg linker bare til den. Du skal købe en plan via hjemmesiden. Tak! (Oversat via Google.)
Thank you this was SO helpful!!!
My pleasure!
For some reason, I am having trouble with this. I tried the Ideas R Us and it didnt convert the entire thing. I do not have a sillhoutte, just a Cricut Explore, yet the image I was sent from another military spouse is from a silhouette. Can you help?
Feel free to email me at christine@cuttingforbusiness.com and I can try to help.
