Another #supplierspotlight on the blog today with a harder to find blank product: infant bodysuits and gowns – particularly colored ones. (Friendly reminder: the word “onesie” is trademarked to Gerber. Unless you are using Gerber brand onesies, you cannot use this term to sell). View previous #supplierspotlight posts at this link.

Where to Colored Infant Bodysuits and Gowns

My go to supplier for infant layette is Monag Apparel, who is both a manufacturer and wholesaler. I’ve previously tried Rabbit Skins, Gerber, Carter’s, and Laughing Giraffe and strongly prefer Monag because they are higher quality. You will need a tax ID to order from Monag, and they ship from New York.

Gowns and bodysuits are generally available in these colors: Aqua, red, white, black, chocolate, fuschia, heather, kelly green, navy, pink, purple, red, sky, slate, steel blue, and turquoise. Sample pricing on infant bodysuits is around $3 each, but once you buy 6 or more the price goes down about 10%. Sample pricing on gowns is around $5 each with price breaks at 6 as well. What I really love about Monag is that they also carry several styles of blank bibs, blankets, knit caps, and coordinating infant pants. This makes it easy to offer complete outfits or accessories as an upsell.

For quick or small orders, or if I'm in a pinch, I really like Hobby Lobby! They call their bodysuits creepers (if you're looking online) and they only have a few colors (and I believe a few patterns if you're in store) but they're only about $3-4 and are made of surprisingly thick and soft fabric.

Hi Christine, where do you suggest buying patterned (stripes,floral....) baby clothing?

I haven't seen a good wholesaler for these that deals with small businesses.

I have a licensed cleaning business and do vinyl on the side as a hobby for family. Could I use that tax ID ?

Christine

No, unless your cleaning company description and paperwork includes vinyl work. Co-mingling is also an accounting nightmare.

This may be a dumb question. I am just starting my small business and have a tax ID do I register for a retail account or wholesale account with Monag?

No, there are no dumb questions around here! You'll want to register as a wholesaler. That'll give you cheaper prices and allow you to decorate and resell the products you made for a profit.

Hi Melissa! If you don't have a tax ID, you can find Monag here: http://amzn.to/2dn7F9N. Hope that helps!
