If you follow the Cutting for Business Facebook page, you may have seen that it passed 10,000 fans over the weekend! Cutting for Business has grown at a rapid rate since I started it. To be quite honest, I never dreamed of all the small business owners that I would get to know, and how the information on my blog would have the ability to truly change the lives of people. Throughout the last months, I’ve received hundreds of emails and messages from readers who have been able to quit their 9-5 job, have been able to earn an income while staying at home raising their children, or have taken fabulous vacations due to the money they’ve earned on the side with their Silhouette or Cricut. I’m humbled each time I open an email or message praising my blog or thanking me.

Then, there was the day that a Cutting for Business reader made me cry. I was at the All Things Silhouette Conference in April. A conference attendee walked up to my table, asked me for a photo of the two of us together, and an autograph on a copy of my book. After chatting for a few minutes, she pulls out a plain white envelope with my name on it and handed it to me. She requested that I don’t open it until I’m in my hotel room, so I stuck the envelope in my laptop bag. Several hours later, I opened the envelope to find a handwritten letter and a single, crinkly dollar bill. According to the letter, she had been laid off from her job several months before and she was desperate to start making money from home when she stumbled across my blog on Google. She stated that with the information in my books and blog that she was able to start a business and earn more than she was making from her previous job. The last lines of the letter reads: “Please accept this dollar as a thank you for all you’ve done for me. At face value it’s a dollar. To me it was the first dollar I ever made in my business and the start of my new life. For that, I thank you.” I was beyond touched and my eyes filled up with tears. To the giver – I am sure you are reading this. Your dollar hangs in my office with the letter tucked safely behind it in the frame. When I’m having a tough day, it inspires me to push forward. I wouldn’t even know where to start to tell you what your gesture meant to me – so I simply leave it at thank you.

  1. I definitely need this coz I’m at a point where I feel I’m ready to take the plunge but there’s a huge wall in front of me which I need to get to the other side of. I’m sure a whole new world’s awaits there for me…if I cud just conquer this hurdle.

  2. So, SO much of what you post has helped me, but I still often feel like I’m drowning, that I could do more! I’d love to bend your ear for a bit and learn even more from you about what I could do to be even better.
Thank you, for all of the time, and love, you put into your blog, and your readers.

  3. Christine, I would love to win a one on one consultation to help give this dream of starting a small business a boost. I feel I need a name first and I have been working on that. I do not like my day job. I love to be creative and crafty, I know I can make a go of this because I have made stuff already and have been successful in selling. Thanks for the opportunity.

I would love to win a consultation from you because I think you’re an amazing person and would be such a great resource for my very new business. I loved having the chance to meet you and talk to you at the all things silhouette conference, I was star struck. You’re definitely my favorite blogger now.

  5. I would love to have the opportunity to have a consultation with you as you have the experience and knowledge of this industry, achieved huge success! I see such a generous person to daily help so many other people for whom this is a chance for them to succeed and find financial security for their family. Oh and almost forgot it would be a whole lot of fun ! Thank you for the chance.

  6. Why I’d like to win? For many reason, but because you’ve been an encouragement and great help to me and I could really use a mentor/friend/advisor. I seem to be getting views, both on Etsy and Pinstigram, but only one sale. I’m perplexed by having a design re-pinned 60+ times (who really knows the total number, because I have them on three boards and one never knows when someone re-re-pinns ) and yet not one single sale of the design. I have questions about sites that take your design and make products… well, let’s just say I have many questions. I understand where the woman who gave you this dollar is coming from having lost over half my income, except despite being visited and somewhat well received, I’m not making money and reaching the end of the proverbial rope.

  7. I would love to win a one-on-one consultation with you because I just started my shop and could use some personal guidance 🙂

  8. It would be fun to win the one-on-one consultation since I’m a small business owner and am always looking to improve my brand. It would be great to get input on my branding, my items, marketing, and overall business to see if I can make improvements.

  9. Having one on one time with you would greatly help me take my little business to the next level. I am preparing to launch on a new website in the next few days (in addition to my current Etsy Shop) and I would love to really succeed in this new adventure! I know that with your personal help (as well as all of the things I’ve been following already… blogs posts, forms downloaded, book, website suggestions etc.) that you provide would help me attain my goals.
Thanks so much for this opportunity!
    Warmly,
    Joanne

  10. I would love to win some one on one consulting because I could use some help getting my business running better. I have an etsy shop, but it’s just starting out and I don’t have much on there.

  11. I so want to win this drawing! I gave up my doll business (teaching, making, selling) a year ago so that I could watch my new grandsons fulltime. I really love creating things with my Silhouette Cameo, and would love to find a way to supplement income using it. Thank you for all that you do to inspire creativity!

  12. Thanks to all the advice and information you have given in your blog, I started my cutting business from scratch and reached some very nice milestone sales goals in mere months! 14. I loved the story! My mom bought the first item from my store, and paid in cash so I could frame the first dollar I made. I have only been working on my business for a couple of months, and I’d love to learn how to make sales that aren’t strictly family!
Your blog has already helped me tremendously! Thank you!

Christine, I choked up at the $1.00 story also!! Truly inspiring. I have my equipment and haven’t yet leapt into business. Thank you for the goose I needed! :))) Much happiness and success to you and all!

  17. Congratulations! I’d love a consultation. I’m just starting out and while I’ve managed FB and Twitter accounts before, it was in an entirely different context. I’d love to know the best way to promote my business.

  18. Business consultants are a dime a dozen. Finding a consultant that focuses solely on my craft business, someone who has experience in that business, and is at the forefront of growth of this business? Well, that’s finding the Hope Diamond, winning the lottery, and answer to prayer all rolled in one!I would love to win 10 hours of consultation with Christine. Imagine if you had Bill Gates available to you when you got your first computer…. yeah. It’d be like that. 🙂

  19. Hi Christine- I would love a one-on-one consultation with you because I feel like you have the knowledge to help me succeed. I think you could help me narrow down my ideas to a few and give me a different perspective of my business.

I love your story, and do know that there are others (like me!) who appreciate everything you do for us!

  20. I love your blog posts and Facebook page! I just received my book and I am learning so much. I would love to win one on one time to have your input. Thank you so much for all of your dedication to this blog! Congrats on the 10,000 likes.

  21. I would love to win your time! That would be priceless. I have a FB shop through Shopify, but have received any orders. I have made sales at craft shows, which are a lot of fun. And I also have a selection of greeting cards for sale at our local feed store, and sold some Mother’s Day cards there. And our Children’s Church leader at our church bought some Mother’s Day cards (16) with the inside blank for the kids to personalize for their moms. And that was a big success. So making some sales, but more important to me I am having a wonderful time doing it! :)Thanks for all your teaching and great advise. God Bless ? ?

  22. I’d love an opportunity to work with you! This isn’t my primary business, but rather my primary fundraiser for my outreach projects, and I’d love to find ways to reach more people, find the right types of products to promote while also getting others more involved in service projects!

  23. I would love to get your insight on starting a business. I feel it would be so great to pick your brain for ideas and best way to promote a new business.

  24. Just getting started! So far, the website and FB page have been a huge help! I would like to win a one-on-one consultation to gain further insight into this business.

  25. Christine, your blog and your page has helped me so much already! I love how we are in the same area because our area is so different in terms of selling and marketing. Between the large amount of tourists, the county being smaller so people often go to larger cities nearby, and the interesting people who live in Polk County, I feel like you understand the struggle better than anyone! I would love the one on ones with you because I know you “get” our area and I would love to learn from someone whose “been there”. Crossing my fingers! 🙂

  26. Hi Christine,
I feel like I have hit a lul in my time and business where I need help elevating it. I have software I need help using and I want to learn more about websites and ETSY. I would love this opportunity for your help!
    Thanks for putting this on!

  27. I have been reading your blog to get tips for starting my own business. Your posts have given me enough knowledge to give me the confidence to start out on this adventure! I am a new mom to a precious 2 month old & wife to a wonderful Army soldier! (I refuse to call myself an “Army Wife” as I am a prior Navy sailor. Go Navy! Lol) I’d love to get a business going that would let me be able to continue to stay home with my little one!
It would be a tremendous blessing to work with you one-on-one to better (and start-up) my business!

  28. Since I plan to get this business off the ground soon, it is so helpful to know what I must do and what is unnecessary for my particular niche. I read so many of your blog and Facebook posts which have been so helpful thus far.
