If you follow the Cutting for Business Facebook page, you may have seen that it passed 10,000 fans over the weekend! Cutting for Business has grown at a rapid rate since I started it. To be quite honest, I never dreamed of all the small business owners that I would get to know, and how the information on my blog would have the ability to truly change the lives of people. Throughout the last months, I’ve received hundreds of emails and messages from readers who have been able to quit their 9-5 job, have been able to earn an income while staying at home raising their children, or have taken fabulous vacations due to the money they’ve earned on the side with their Silhouette or Cricut. I’m humbled each time I open an email or message praising my blog or thanking me.
Then, there was the day that a Cutting for Business reader made me cry. I was at the All Things Silhouette Conference in April. A conference attendee walked up to my table, asked me for a photo of the two of us together, and an autograph on a copy of my book. After chatting for a few minutes, she pulls out a plain white envelope with my name on it and handed it to me. She requested that I don’t open it until I’m in my hotel room, so I stuck the envelope in my laptop bag. Several hours later, I opened the envelope to find a handwritten letter and a single, crinkly dollar bill. According to the letter, she had been laid off from her job several months before and she was desperate to start making money from home when she stumbled across my blog on Google. She stated that with the information in my books and blog that she was able to start a business and earn more than she was making from her previous job. The last lines of the letter reads: “Please accept this dollar as a thank you for all you’ve done for me. At face value it’s a dollar. To me it was the first dollar I ever made in my business and the start of my new life. For that, I thank you.” I was beyond touched and my eyes filled up with tears. To the giver – I am sure you are reading this. Your dollar hangs in my office with the letter tucked safely behind it in the frame. When I’m having a tough day, it inspires me to push forward. I wouldn’t even know where to start to tell you what your gesture meant to me – so I simply leave it at thank you.
