I say it all the time on Cutting for Business: Learn to use your machine before you start selling items. My favorite analogy for this situation is you wouldn’t want a doctor to operate on you just because they ordered surgical tools online; so don’t make your customers buy products from someone that just bought a machine online.
Today, I’m reviewing How to Use Your Silhouette – A Project Based Guide by Craft-e-Corner’s Kala Peterson and illustrated by Erin Pletcher. If you aren’t familiar with Craft-E-Corner, it is an online craft store that boasts more than 80,000 craft related products including Silhouette and Cricut, knit, crochet, sewing, paint, art, and more. Craft-e-Corner provided a free copy of How to Use Your Silhouette – A Project Based Guide to use in this review, as always the opinions are my own.
How To Use Your Silhouette – A Project Based Guide
Let’s get to the book: I’d recommend this guide to someone that does not have much experience with their Silhouette Cameo. The guide opens with a full description of each and every button in Silhouette Studio, then moves into projects. I love how the guide uses actual projects to teach Silhouette skills. Some of the projects included in the book are: personalizing items with vinyl, coloring etched glass, drawing, PVPP (Paint, Vinyl, Paint, Peel) method, tracing, working with heat transfer vinyl, and more. You can view the entire table of contents in the image below. The guide concludes with a thorough troubleshooting section that offers solutions to common problems that arise and covers everything from vinyl not cutting correctly to issues that arise with weeding – plus a lot more!
I’m a visual learner who learns best by seeing a photo of something as it is done. How to Use Your Silhouette – A Project Based Guide has photos of the steps of each project. In fact, there’s over 150 pictures in the 87 page guide (I counted so that you don’t have to)! Additionally, the guide is well laid out and tips are summarized in boxes throughout the guide. I’m confident recommending this guide to all new Silhouette owners.
