I love seeing companies using a Silhouette or Cricut machine in an uncommon way. Today, I’m sharing how Clearplex uses a Silhouette Cameo to make custom screen protectors for electronics. Wondering where I heard about them? From the All Things Silhouette Conference in Newport Beach!

How Clearplex Uses a Silhouette Cameo in their Business

Clearplex uses a specialty film to cut custom sized phone and tablet screen protectors. They first created a unique cutting mat to make sure their film placement is correct:

Next, Clearplex has created an app that stores the dimensions of popular phones and tablets. To make the Silhouette Cameo cut a specific size, they simply connect the Cameo to their app:

Then, the Cameo cuts the material to size:

After the film is cut and weeded, it’s applied to the phone or tablet using a wet method and a squeegee.

Here’s a before picture of my self applied old screen protector (I know, it was pretty bad):

Can you tell me what cut setting you put your machine on in order to cut the screen protector material?

Clearplex is also the manufacturer of the material, so I'm sure they have their own settings.

Saw this demonstrated on my phone at the All Things Silhouette Conference in CA this summer. I had JUST disposed of a fancy screen saver the phone company talked me into... it cracked. So my phone was unprotected. They made me a screen saver, and even a cute skin for the back of my phone that shows through my translucent case. I have to say this screen saver has been my favorite to date! Great use of the Cameo for sure!

Yes! They were great at the conference - and clearly good timing for you!

Fascinating! So who installs the plastic on the device, customer, store personnel, or clearplex representative? Does it require a super small squeege?

It is interesting, isn't it? A trained store employee handles cutting and application. When it was shown to me, just an average size squeegee was used.

Christine, this is wonderful outside the cubby box thinking! I love this! :) I haven't ever considered creating a custom app... but, hey, we have all done things we didn't know we couldn't do! :) Thanks again!!
