What is a Glowforge?

Today and tomorrow, I’m taking a few minutes to recap the All Things Silhouette Conference that I instructed at last weekend. To start, I wanted to share some information about the Glowforge laser cutter that I shared at the conference. Before we get going, what exactly is a Glowforge? It’s a CNC laser cutter engraver that uses a thin laser to burn through materials like wood, acrylic, leather, and many more. The Glowforge performs three different functions: 1) Cut – the Glowforge cuts entirely through a material, 2) Engrave – the machine cuts through a portion of the material, and 3) Score – the Glowforge leaves a line across the material.

In this brand new class at the All Things Silhouette Conference, I introduced many Silhouette users to the Glowforge machine by giving basic information about the machine. Then, I shared about 15 projects that I had made using the Glowforge. These projects included everything from a wooden purse to an acrylic night light and earrings to conference themed marshmallows!

I got my Glowforge many months ago and have been looking for an outlet to share more information about it. Since Cutting for Business is solely devoted to running craft businesses – I have no intention of diluting the business information or regularly posting off topic. Instead, I started a brand new blog called, Made with Forge, where you can learn more information about the Glowforge. Over there, I will feature tutorials, freebies, giveaways, and more.
