Craft Room Tour

If you’ve been around Cutting for Business for a while, you’ll remember that we had our house on the market to sell. It hasn’t sold. Since school is about to start, we pulled it off the market after 60 days and will try again next summer. But, I rearranged some rooms to make life easier and we installed wood look porcelain tile throughout the entire first floor.

In a nutshell, my craft room used to be upstairs in the master bedroom’s sitting room – it was tiny and cramped. So, I took over the playroom, and all the kid’s toys have been moved to family room. Today, I’m sharing everything in pictures, along with where I shopped.

My New Craft Room

Everything in my craft room was placed deliberately and I drew maps as I described in this post to maximize efficiency (you can also catch a peek at my old craft room in that post)! You can see that I’ve separated the room into 3 areas: a work space with a large table, craft supply storage, and an office and shipping area.

Most everything came from IKEA.

Table: IKEA Bekant – $229. This is a 55 inch square work table; IKEA calls it is a conference table. The table comes in several color combinations; I chose a white base and grey top (although the color is not grey at all!) In the center of the table a door opens to reveal a small storage space and you can put a power strip inside. Cutting for Business Craft Room Tour - Silhouette Cameo, Curio, Portrait, Mint, Alta, Cricut Explore Air, Maker - cuttingforbusiness.com

Metal chairs: IKEA Roberget – $89. Honestly, they aren’t comfortable. I need to find a cushion for the seat of each. I decided on two chairs so I wasn’t dragging one chair all over the room. Also, now I have space for a friend to craft with me! Psst, it shouldn’t surprise you but the curtains in the background are IKEA’s Gulsporre model.Cutting for Business Craft Room Tour - Silhouette Cameo, Curio, Portrait, Mint, Alta, Cricut Explore Air, Maker - cuttingforbusiness.com

Rolling cart: Michaels – $30, with IKEA Fintorp buckets inside – $7 and up. (IKEA carries a similar rolling cart.) The cart holds the things that I use the most like blades, transfer tape, pens, weeding tools, and so on. I already had the buckets so I stuck them inside to keep everything more organized.

Vinyl Storage Racks: IKEA bag holders – $2. A while back a fellow crafter discovered this nifty hack to hang IKEA plastic bag holders on the wall for rolled vinyl; I did the same.

Mat Storage: Binder Clips. I like to store my mats on the wall using binder clips. It keeps them flat, clean, and out of the way. Cutting for Business Craft Room Tour - Silhouette Cameo, Curio, Portrait, Mint, Alta, Cricut Explore Air, Maker - cuttingforbusiness.com

Shelving & Baskets: IKEA Kallax – $109. We already had these on hand from the playroom, so I’m reusing them. One Kallax holds craft supplies while the other holds office supplies and ready to ship products from my Amazon store. The baskets are IKEA’s Branas – $13.

Desk: IKEA Linnmon – $20 and up, Linnmon hardware – $10, Olov legs – $15 each. This desk is neat because it connects to the Kallax shelf to make a work unit. The Linnmon table top is available in several lengths. Cutting for Business Craft Room Tour - Silhouette Cameo, Curio, Portrait, Mint, Alta, Cricut Explore Air, Maker - cuttingforbusiness.com

Wondering where all the toys went? They got moved to the family room. So far, it’s working out well! This was another IKEA project that we completed just a few weeks ago.

All of the shelves are Billy bookcases with 2 extender sections on each of the tall ones. The center 3 sections are Billy bookcases with Oxberg doors. We first attached the bookcases to the walls, added MDF trim between the units to make it look like one piece, and nailed crown molding to the top. We finished it off by caulking all the seams and adding molding to the bottom. The toys are stashed in the twelve baskets and behind the three sets of doors.

Too bad IKEA isn’t publicly traded or I’d buy some stock – I spend so much money there! 🙂 Don’t have an IKEA near you? IKEA is now sold on Amazon – click here.

I love all of it! My craft room is big but combined with sewing and very unorganized. I love the bag holder idea for the vinyl. I look forward to reading all of your post!

Christine, love the huge spaciousness of your new craft room! Your conference table is awesome and would be the majority of my space! Well not quite but with something like that some other desks/stands could go and replaced with the one. I will have to take a look. I also need to see the new version of the bag holders for my vinyl. My system is starting to sag :( Next outing....trip to IKEA!

Great set up; clever idea to use a conference table with a central outlet for plugs. And I like the idea of the binder clips holding the cutting mats and hanging them on the wall. Of course I love the Kallax shelving, but mine are filled with vintage Pyrex bowls.
